Nil 3.0
I suggested to Nil that we should do some photos around Kyrenia Old town a while back, and we organised recently to go on Monday early evening. Regular readers will find several recent blogs that include Nil, with links available in the group ALBUM.
For the shoot I took along a lighting solution, but timed the shoot so we had a good amount of light without it being overwhelming. Then we just had a pleasant stroll around the small backstreets and by the side and back of the castle. I’ve shot this area with other people, so I had a few spots in mind and was looking for some new places and posses. The inspiration for me behind the shoot, was that sometimes in my mind’s eyes I see Nil running a travel art Vlog or something. That said I feel the black and white version add a very classic feel to the photos. I’m really pleased with the sets, and feel there are some stand out photos there too, ready for exhibition.
Nil is always so pleasant to work with and adds her own elements, but listens as well. I am so happy to keep working with her, and we had a chat about more scarves, perhaps in public. Thanks again to Nil. It was hot out, and actually quite hard work. I started sweating and didn’t really stop. A kind restaurant guy gave us some water at one point.
So these first photos are the back stairs from the municipal carpark to the back of the castle. Very happy with how these turned out, although editing out the roadworks in the background was a pain. Previously never been quite happy with compositions at this location, but happy with these.
Some Side action worked here too, again a knew idea. This time colour works better
There was a rooftop to climb on just by the castle. I think its confusing in Black and White, so here with the colour versions.
The closer shots in this location work in both versions.
I like these limited light to the face shots
I think I like the colour version for the wall and stair, but include a BW one.
Love these ones in colour.
I love the last one, and see it in an exhibition one day.
The next photos I like a lot are these black and white ones by a tree in the old town.

I found this shoot very interesting from the point of view of which shots work better in colour and in black and white. As a photographer I prefer colour photographs, but the general rule is that people respect black and white photography more in art circles. Some believe it takes away distraction. Personally, if there is a reason for colour in the photo, then I like to keep it in colour. But often, colour has little to do with the success of the photo, and black and white can add clearer tones. Anyway, there are 112 pictures, you can find which you prefer HERE.
