Cyprus June 2025

June 28, 2025  •  Leave a Comment

So this month there were a few decent events and a couple of shoots.  One shoot actually happend last month but it seemed more natural to tallk about it alongside the second shoot before moving onto the events.

The resason I want to talk about the shoots together, as they are a new direction for me and something I am just trying out. Although I have done nude shoots before with Caberet Vs Cancer, they weren't specifically nude artistic shoots.  These are the photography equivelent of life modelling.

So first up is the wonderful travelling proffesional model Lia, over in Cyprus doing a workshop with Sergio, a friendly Italian photographer I know that lives in the south of Nicosia.  Check his page and hers for more. www.sergiovaccarophoto.com/  and Lia

I didn't want to attend the workshop and asked if there was any time available during her visit.  So we met at Sergio's, which was interesting, just south of the buffer zone.  I was there early to cockrel cries and some cleaning going on in the flat.  We all smoked and had coffee and then began.  Lia is a super natural person and is very comfortable as a nude model.  I wasn't sure about doing that, but I did have some ideas and I showed Lia some Edward Weston shots and she understood exactly the sort of photos I was after.  We could have done it in underwear, but Lia encouraged me that she was totally ok with nudity.  So I agreed, and am really glad I did.  We did more photos than below, I am not sure what I want to share yet.

The Second model also stayed with Sergio, and we shot in my home studio.  She is a lovely girl and has been enjoying Cyprus.  She came to a group exhibition too, so has been really nice to see her out and about.  Again will not be sharing many, just to give you an idea.  Find her on IG Karinna

Yeah I need a bit of time to decide if I will move forward in this direction or not.  Some of the photos really are great artistic nudes. but I don't want to devalue them by posting everywhere .  I might show them at exhibition, and only if I move forward with the project.  To be honest its stopped me booking other shoots.  I am not sure of anything right now, not even this blog.  Sometimes its good to pause and reflect.  I have one joint project hopefully coming up, but beyond that nothing in the pot, which is a weird place to be, but one that hopefully will lead to growth.

So next up is a performance by Pera Students, at the Art Rooms, not their usual performance space.  In fact the whole thing started out on the street, and slowed traffic!  Her is all the information taken directly from their instagram

Recently, our students had the opportunity to participate in “Straitjacket Embodied”, a performance by Anber Onar presented as part of the exhibition “INCASE” … at Art Rooms Gallery in Kyrenia, Cyprus. In collaboration with the students of PERA, 34 performers took to the streets in a striking embodiment of the exhibition’s themes — challenging borders between public space, performance, and political memory.
We’re incredibly proud of our students for their powerful presence in this project, and grateful to @anberonar @toya.akpinar , @lloydmiles12 and all parties involved for making space for such meaningful artistic exchange.
Performers;
Sara Alexa Ghilezan, Ambre Loisse, Isabella Dorante, Catarina Namour, Margarida Martins, Lisara Gallage, Sofia Silva Bastos, Jelena Keirsbiklc, Polina Gorlova, Christine Fuglbjerg, Diana Adbo, Beatrice Mariani, Linda Pasquini, Lucija Oroz, Hoi Ying (Melodie) Lai, Tea Podboj Breznik, Hélia Collin, Jitske Cosemans, Patrycja Ryczaj, Luciana Rios, Julia Gombkötő, Eirini Papageorgiou, Evelien Snoeckx, Daniela Ribeiro, Skyla Buchanan, Anicka Labat, Ines Correa, Galatia Christodoulou, Iris Franco, Rozi Takács, Elizaveta Ermilova, Gabriela Rocha, Ivonne A. Anyway it was very evocative and well worth seeing.

Next up is Our Lens Collective, and new video and photography collective that had their first show this month at Hangar, a venue in the heart of Nicosia/Lefkosa.  My instagram post has a lot of info on the open night.  It was a good night, with DJ and lots of Pera people supported us too, helping out on the night and the subject of some of the films.  Thanks to Silest for organising it all, and Memo and Deniz for the music.
