Cyprus May 2025

Another very busy month that rivals last month, but I am hoping to get it all into one post.  The only way to do this is to be a bit more selective. So...

This month starts with a mixtures of photos of the talented Iolanda, some fitting well into my “in The Landscape” series, but some portraits, headshots and dancer portraits too. Iolanda is a fourth year Pera student from Portugal that is really at the top of her game.  She is a fun and vibrant individual, and she is doing many things right now, including teaching workshops, performing and making plans for work in the summer. Iolanda and I have been aware of each other for a long time through Rita, the first Pera dancer I met, and back when we first met, I did ask her if she might want to shoot.  This is like  3 years ago or something.  Although a very bubbly person, she confessed at the time that she was a little shy of photos.   I bumped into her again just recently and she said she had a show on that I could come to if I wanted and that is how this shoot came about, and the other recent shoots with Iris and then Anastasia too. Synchronicity. Thank you Iolanda for a great collaboration.  @iolandacristina_

The location was initially Alagdi Beach, but I didn't like most of the shots due to the sun, and I didn't want to repeat shots of the past.  The other locations were basically at the side of the road near Tatli Su.

You read about Mark last month. Mark is an exceptional singer and musician but wants a new side hustle.  He is returning to Canada soon and hopefully I have him started on a portfolio. @markpichkur  These were a couple of creative shots about mental health.

Beautiful dance event with art and fashion stalls put on by @bpm.cyp in the heart of Lefkosa @atolyea_aysenozanil. In collaboration with:@northcyprusvintage @taratatttooo @neginy_tattoo I only know Kate and Narin from this collective, but went along to support them and because it sounded like fun. There were a lot of finely dressed people on the night.  Vibe was super chilled and relaxed.  Had a lovely time, and very much enjoyed the first DJ.  There was some graffiti inside done on newspaper and there was also a big white sheet to leave your Tag on. The whole thing made me feel a little old though, I was doing this sort of stuff a lifetime ago.  I preferred the music I knew then but I did hear some decent tunes. Thanks Kate for having me along @tusovka.kate (copy and paste to instagram to find places and people).  Many more shots in the main album linked at the end.

Next up is someone I haven't seen since she was 12 years old, and even then its not like we chatted for hours.  So it was wonderful to see her and her husband, Daniella and James, for a couple of days in Cyprus, all the way from Australia.  Just a few photos, but so lovely to connect with them.

They are a into photography too, which was a nice suprise.

Next up is a shoot with student Selin, who is at Arucad, and just a very stylish person.  Anyway she reached out about doing a horse shoot at a place she is learning to ride.  Had a great day with her, but there was lots of driving and we stayed up late after the shoot going over the photos.  Working with a horse (it was three actually) is challenging.  Give it 10 seconds without attention and the horse drops its head to eat.  But we managed.  Thanks to help.  Check the logo of the last shot if you want to learn to ride. @selin.argl

Next up is the wonderful travelling proffesional model Lia, over in Cyprus doing a workshop with Sergio, a friendly Italian photographer I know that lives in the south of Nicosia.  Check his page and hers for more. www.sergiovaccarophoto.com/  and Lia

I didn't want to attend the workshop and asked if there was any time available during her visit.  So we met at Sergio's, which was interesting, just south of the buffer zone.  I was there early to cockrel cries and some cleaning going on in the flat.  We all smoked and had coffee and then began.  Lia is a super natural person and is very comfortable as a nude model.  I wasn't sure about doing that, but I did have some ideas and I showed Lia some Edward Weston shots and she understood exactly the sort of photos I was after.  We could have done it in underwear, but Lia encouraged me that she was totally ok with nudity.  So I agreed, and am really glad I did.  We did more photos than below, but these are my favs, and with no graphic nudity.  It has me thinking about the whole nude photography scene and about proffesional models.  What do you think?

This last one is my favourite

Next up some shots from Pera, a couple of performances I missed last time.  Find out more about The Last Kiss (performers here are Anastasia and Julia)

And finally a few quick headshots of my photographer friend Nafaaas, looking stylish as always.

I love her work, find her here
