So loads has happened since the last update.  I am officially teaching now with a school called Eduland that is based in Nicosia and Kyrenia.  I work nights at the moment doing around 8 hours a week.   I managed to fit in my cousin's twins' birthday party too, as well as popping out with my Mum on Sundays.  There was also some independence celebrations, and a couple of nights out.  I had only been teaching a week when Teachers' Day came around and was treated to a slap up meal and some drinks by the school at a nice casino restaurant.  Staff are lovely and friendly and we all got a little drunk, which was really nice. I also shot with Tajfu Cosplay again, this time in a coffee shop that has thousands of second hand books for the punters to look through. Weather has still been warm, but with torrential downpours and lightning every couple of days.  There was quite a flood and sadly some casualties on one particular night which has everyone a little upset.  There are some decent roads here, but many dirt tracks too, plus the mountains can be unpredictable in heavy rain.

January 2019

So my last post was about two weeks into teaching English as a foreign language.  It's now been a couple of months.  At the beginning I was quite stressed, but now I am enjoying it more and have some great students.  The place I work at has a rooftop classroom in Kyrenia/Girne where I am living, although head office is in Nicosia/Lefkosa.  Views are great.  I also visited Aya Napa and Larnaca on the greek side on a bus tour, which was so so, being off season.  The most interesting bit was driving through the forbidden zone at the new border crossing in Magusa, on the east coast off the island.  This area had old Greek housing left over from the time of the original occupation, overgrown and abandoned. For those wishing to know more about the troubled past of Cyprus, you can watch this video which is the best I have come across at explaining things here. 

It was also my Birthday, winter Solstice,  and my first New Year in Cyprus.  I met up with friends and had food and champagne.  End of this week I will be popping to London for a two week visit, mainly to see family at a couple of events involving my nieces.  Above is a sea view from my digs that I really like.
